Recent results

Let's begin with the most recent that has happened since the last newsletter. This weekend Cadell Webb (16 yo, left on the picture above) won the lvl 5 U18 doubles tournament in Cheyenne with his partner Daniel Blanch. This is Cadells first tournament victory of this calibre and he has been improving a lot over the last 6 months which is no surprise since he always puts a great effort and focus into every practice. Congrats on your win Cadell!

Eva Joyce (11 yo, picture above) won a lvl 6 U12 tournament in Steamboat Springs during thanksgiving weekend. Eva always puts in a great effort in both tennis- and physical practice and is very aware of what she is working to improve. She has a very effective consistent ground game and we are working to get more efficiency in her shots. Thank you for being part of our team Eva, I'm sure 2025 will be an exciting year for your development.

From our Performance group we had Tyler, Jake, Cadell, and Zane in action for the boys' high school fall season. They all made it to the state championship in Denver in October.

Tyler Van Tassell (1st singles at Fossil Ridge) won his first round in the finals and lost a close match in the quarterfinals against Trevor Hajek. Tyler had been struggling a bit with his game throughout the fall season and while not finding his best level during the championships, he finished on a strong note and represented our team well.

Jake Bronson (1st singles at Fort Collins HS) generally had a pretty good season with his best win against Tyler. He also made it through to the championships where he lost his first match in the round of 16.

Cadell Webb (2nd singles at Fossil Ridge) playing his sophomore year also had a good season and won his first round match in the championships but lost the quarterfinals.

Zane Webb has been injured since last years championship where he stepped on a ball in a freak accident. But he managed to sneak into a 3rd doubles for Fossil Ridge and they made it to the semifinal in state. It was great to see him back on the court and we hope to have him back in practice as soon as possible.

All in all, it's been good to have so many players representing MT in the state championships already in our second year. We plan on producing more players in the future that can make a run for state championships and beyond.

Tyler Van Tassell honored at "2024 USTA Colorado Tennis Hall of Fame gala"

It is no secret, that it is very important to me how our players in MT represent the team. Respect, honesty, integrity, will, and positive energy are some of the core values that I want to shine through when our players are in action. Therefore, I think it is worth a mention that Tyler was honored at this year's "USTA Colorado Tennis Hall of Fame" gala in November. He won the award in the "boys 15-18" category for "sportmanship, leadership, and achievement". Congratulations Tyler, you have an amazing energy and great values, and we are lucky to have you in our team.

Christmas event 2024 (a few pics)

It has now become tradition in MT to end the year with a Christmas event for all players and parents. Here's a few action shots from the Christmas games.

Conclusion of 2024

2023 was the birth of our team, and 2024 has been the year of strengthening the team: The process, the spirit, and the bonds among players. We now have a full functioning strong team of 17 players from 10 to 17 years divided into four groups, where everyone is passionate and contributes with positive energy in their own individual way.

I want to thank every single player and parent for being part of Mathiesen Tennis, I'm looking forward to more progress and great times on- and off the court in 2025 🎾🔥

Merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone!
